Bull Is Under Arrest Now

The World is getting bizarre day by day.

South Sudanese police made headlines lately after arresting a cow just days after sentencing a ram (male adult sheep) to a military camp for three years of hard labor.

A cherry on the top was what the police spokesman said, “The owner is innocent…the ram is the one who perpetrated the crime…it deserves to be arrested. Our role as police is to provide safety and separate fights.”

This is unusual in a world where all other countries have harsh penalties for animal cruelty. If an animal is not tamed and there were pieces of evidence for its wild behavior, rules may be enforced to restrict the movement of the animals in public or taming at a facility is acceptable. But portraying animals as tough criminals and being punished is not accepted at any level.

Livestock is the preferred form of currency in some parts of Sudan, and it is used to buy homes, pay dowries, and recompense for criminal offences including murder. A single cow might be worth hundreds of dollars in a poor country like Sudan.

In Western countries, supermarkets feature dedicated pet sections, grooming and daycare services. Many people regard animals to be almost family members. The scenario is totally different on the other side of the planet. I’m bringing this to your attention not to condemn but to inform those who are unaware of what’s going on in other parts of the globe. You can help animals if you can help a starving child. Let’s spread the message and save the animals.
