Learning from Outdoor Sessions

Two memorable Outdoor Sessions

Human brain is like a flower which after spreading it's fragrance all the day needs water to get refreshed. Similarly we humans need some relaxation in our life after engaging in numerous tiring tasks and facing the busy routines in order to increase our productivity and efficiency of life. These days, we are so busy, working like a zombie or a money making machine that we forget how to improve our worklife balance and give ourselves sometime to regain our lost energy. In order to grow there should always be a proper worklife balance, and we can maintain that balance through various outdoor activities which are an essential part of our learning journey.

Outdoor sessions are such wonderful recreational activities which creates ecstasy and helps us purify our souls by removing all the stress and worries of our life for sometimes which really improves our learning mechanism and boosts our energy.
I was confused which outdoor session I must reflect on here, so I want to share the stories of two outdoor sessions I had recently attended.

Iftar gathering with Amal Family

First is the outdoor session with Amal Family in which we had iftar together and the other one is a visit to salehpat with my batchmates. Undoubtedly both the sessions were full of learning and they made us realize how important it is to experience such activities for a more productive life.
Let me share my first outdoor session experience which was Amal iftar session. Well there were mixed feelings in this gathering, probably because it was our last gathering with our trainers who guided us for three months of an awsom unforgetable journey. There was a feeling of joy seeing all the happy faces together, and a feeling of sadness that might these moments will not come again. It gave me the lesson that no matter what life has to move on and that we create our own happiness , letting our past not overwhelm our emotions or distracts our goals. People come and go but what remains is all those beautiful moments we spend together as a friend, as a supporter, as a family, and as a sense of affection we get from eachother. Sitting among all the fellows of Amal Academy at this last outdoor gathering reminded me of all the charming memories we collected together as if we were not to be apart forever. This is true indeed, although we will be apart physically but the respect in our hearts for eachother for the valuable time we spend together, will remain forever. Moreover, apart from the fellows, our trainers, Ma'am Hamna Tariq and Sir Ayub khalid Khwaja were the most awsom people I, ve ever met. They gave us so much in this short time that we can hardly think of. Seeing them leave was the most saddening moment at this gathering, but the time we spent has an eternal affection. The lessons I got from this session was of humility, respect for eachother, and caring for eachother as a human. I got to know that it's not necessary to have blood relation to get the feelings of unity. It's just our behaviours and actions that matter a lot. The short time we spent gave us the lesson to continue our journey with such grace and beauty that we had with us in this three months, to continue our journey with smiling faces, it gave us the strength to conquer our upcoming challenges. It gave us the lesson of creating a positive change in the world by eliminating the roots of negativity in within us by creating a sense of unity, humanity, and care people need as being the individuals of the this globe living collectively in the society.

My second outdoor session which impacted me a lot was a visit to Salehpat with my batch mates. It was arranged and managed by Sir Waqar Akram who was teaching us Agribusiness at that time.It was indeed in real terms an outdoor session which left us with lots of learning and question marks to explore. The purpose of this session was to gain first hand on the spot knowledge regarding farm practices and deep insight of the agricultural system, seed system, marketing system of agriculture. The day typically started with a joyous journey full of fun and learning. On arrival we were warmly welcomed by our hosts, Shoaib Seed Corporation owner Mr Malik Shafeeq, Deputy Director Mr Rasool Buksh Junejo and their team.

Seminar arranged for us by the hosts
Dr Waqar Akram with hosts of the event

Before visiting the fields and factory a formal informative seminar was arranged in which we were guided and told about farm practices being used on that farm. In the seminar we were briefed about the history of the corporation and the varieties of the crops they grow, and what procedures they follow from sowing a seed to end consumer’s usage. We also got to know what legal issues they face in this procedure and what solutions they have or they make abruptly for the critical situations they face.

Mr Malik Shafeeq sahab making students visit the fields

Mr Shafeeq along with his team made all the students visit his field on which they grow crops. We interacted with the farmers and asked them about their wages and working conditions , the barriers and difficulties they face during cotton picking. Farmers told us that they are being paid Rs350 per 40kg cotton for which they have to stretch themselves from dawn to dusk. They said that picking cotton is a difficult and tough job to do and they had to bear all the heat during summers and cold during winters , they said they sometimes get swelling and blisters on their hands while picking the cotton but this is their job and they have to do this to earn bread no matter what. Seeing the severe working conditions of poor farmers and the laborers at the factory gave me the lesson of gratitude, for being thankful to Allah to not put us in such conditions and I prayed for their ease in their lives as well.

Poor Farmers working in the fields under scorching sun

These were the people who know the real meaning of life and it’s struggles, and what we know is very limited because of our ease and comfort. There tough life taught us the lesson of being consistent with our goals so that at some point in future we can do something for them, for the education of their children, for their better living standards and providing them better working conditions. They made us realise how tough life can be, and that it’s not easy to earn money.
After that we went to a farmhouse and saw the cattle practices of handling cattles. At the end of the session there was lunch arranged for us , along with the high tea. In the concluding discussion we raised some points about the education of the children of farmers, and very low pay of farmers. These issues were beautifully adressed to the students by Mr Malik Shafeeq sahab the owner of Shoaib Seed Corporation.
Overall it was a great learning experience in which I learnt the importance of education in our society, gratitude, our need for practical exposure, and essense of hospitality. The thing I enjoyed the most was seeing step by step how cotton is being grown uptil how it is being packed and delivered to the consumers.

Outdoor sessions like these has a very important role in our worklife balance. Working like a robot and no adventure in life make our life boring and sometimes we get so frustrated that we no longer want to work even. These sessions give us some handy experiences and help us understand the deeper concepts of living a joyful life with work burdens. They create a positive change in our behaviours, lift us up to build a network, keep us fresh and energetic, and not only we try to relax ourselves through these activities but also they improve our learning abilities. We understand by these actvities that real life is not working 9 hours a day, making money, just eat and sleep and repeat, that the real life is about enjoying every single precious moment, that each moment of happiness once gone will never come back so in order to live it fully we need a break from all our tiresome and hectic routine and the positive energy we generate by these activities help us grow in our professional or academic work life as well. I will try to maintain this balance in my life by engaging in these type of outdoor sessions because I truly believe that these are the real source of learning and growth, mentally, physically, psychologically, and emotionally. They made us in real sense a true life long learner.
