Tom

Tom was predestined to have the worst first day of school possible. He hadn’t read a page of his summer reading assignment. He had not yet looked at his schedule. His eyes stung as he looked at the digital clock in his room. It read: 7:45 a.m. This certainly is not the greatest start of the semester for Tom due to the fact that school starts at 8 a.m. and is roughly a fifteen minute drive from his house. Tom is indifferent to his current condition because he hates school. He rolls out of bed, tosses on his one-size-too-small pair of shorts and stained t-shirt from off of the floor, and proceeds to head downstairs. Tom’s mother and father have already started their day and had left the house an hour prior to get to work. Tom grabbed his backpack and hopped in his car. After fumbling with his keys, he sticks them into the ignition and turned the car on to see that the clock on the dashboard read: 7:52. Tom’s tardiness was not significant to him because the more tardy he was, the less time he would have to spend with the horrible people at school. They don’t understand his humor. The teachers don’t care for him because to them he is just another kid who won’t take their class seriously and complete the work they assign. However, Tom is no low-life loser who will drop out of school within the next year and end up working at Wendy’s or Dunkin’ Donuts. Because of Tom’s dread and attitude towards school, everyone overlooks Tom. Tom is not disrespectful, nor is he discouraged. Tom is a compassionate kid and has aspirations just like everyone else. There are many things many people don’t know about Tom such as his love for animals. Or his dedication towards becoming a Marine. Tom doesn’t care for school because he is too busy working out, training for combat, and broadening his intelligence on the U.S. Marine corps. Tom doesn’t like the people at school because they do not understand the work he puts in or the value of his aspirations. Teachers and Tom’s peers do not hold Tom in high regards because of his lack of energy towards them. The world needs people like Tom because they bring diversity to communities and countries. People like Tom should be praised in society even though they are not praised in school.
