Focus is the most precious skill that you should cultivate now

We are in an age of information overload. Distraction is a constant companion. The phone chimes with a notification alert, a mail pops-up, a colleague calls you for a quick question and your mind wanders away thinking about the new electric car ad that you saw while commuting to work. After a few minutes, you suddenly realize that the most important commodity you ever have that determines your day is slowly slipping away. Time. You pull back your concentration and start focusing on the task at hand only to realize a little later that the ‘drift’ has happened again. If this is not your typical day, we’ll congratulations. If this is your typical day, we’ll, it is time for a little ‘Focus’.

There is no denying that some of the best and productive people we met are masters of focus. These people are masters of their time and are heroes in the team. Whether it is writing a beautiful piece of code, driving a meeting to its full utilization or nailing a presentation, they are focused. They crunch their tasks, know when to ring the bell and always exceed expectations. They knew when to bring back the mind to the task at hand effectively.

Like most skills, focus can be mastered with practice. Simply being conscious of the task at hand can help us with coming back to it in case we sent our attention elsewhere temporarily. Another way to practice focus is to write down the task as a word on a sticky note and hang it some where near where you can constantly view it. It takes time, but in the end it can be mastered. And when mastered, it does come with a better quality of work and life. Focus is the mantra of our time and is the way for a better you. Now Focus!
