You can do it

Do you want to start your own business but think you just can’t do it? Maybe you have an idea but you don’t know where to start or you’ve tried before and failed.

A lot of us invent a narrative that we’re not smart enough to be successful as business owners. Mass media shows us Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk, and Steve Jobs while constantly praising their genius. Thinking that you have to be unusually smart AND lucky to achieve success in business becomes an easy excuse to not try.

An estimate of the percentage of the population that have genius level IQ (140–145) is one quarter of one percent. Think about that. .25 of .01 or .0025 percent of the population are geniuses.

That means in the fabled economic 1% three quarters of them are not geniuses. They are just regular people like you and me.

You can do it.

Applying these numbers to the US population of approximately 300 million, there are 750,000 geniuses in America. That number is a little higher than I expected, but we’ll roll with it.

I kind of like our odds.

You can do it.

Once we remove the fallacy of our intelligence as the obstacle, it’s time to get down to work. You need to believe in yourself and take action.

Look around your life. Do you have anything? Did you graduate from a school? Did you learn to tie your shoes? Have you ever learned anything?
