Make Friday Count

Today’s motto; and next week I won’t wish my life away

My oldest daughter had a shirt when she was little that said, “FRY-DAY IS MY DAY!” It had a box of cartoon french fries on it, appearing to be celebrating that Friday is finally here.

It always feels like a bit of a celebration when Friday finally arrives. There are often donuts brought in, and you can dress down a little bit at work. At least that’s how it’s been in all the jobs I’ve ever worked.

The mindset of Friyay seems to allow me to take my foot off the gas for a day, just coasting through. I also find myself wishing and hoping for it days before it comes. Like if Friday would just get here, I’d finally be able to breathe.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m excited about the weekend. It’s the last weekend for the littles playing soccer for the fall. The youngest divisions will be getting trophies. And regardless of your stance on that, it’ll be the highlight of their season. I’ll want to soak all that up.

I guess that’s where I am. The more weeks I wish on by, and the more life I’m rushing to get to, the more special moments are slipping through my fingers. I want it all to slow down, really. But I don’t need to wish for what has already happened either. I find myself in the middle.

When I struggle to find that balance, Paul’s letter to the Philippians keeps me grounded:

So I sit here, content with the day I’ve been given. My family, my job, my hobbies, and my faith all count. Everything counts, so today counts. Celebrate Friday! And enjoy the rest too.

With that being said, BRING ON THE WEEKEND!
